About Geocaching

What is geocaching?

Geocaching is a fun pastime/hobby that appeals to any age. The idea of the game is to go out into nature and find containers hidden by other members of the geocaching community. There are geocaches hiding everywhere. No matter how small the town. They can be hidden in plain sight or very well hidden. The fun never stops! Check out the map to find out what geocaches are near you!

What year was geocaching released?

2000. The website was released in 2000. The way you geocached before the app was you went to the website, found a geocache you wanted to find, and programmed it into your gps, and off you went! The way you do it with the app now is you select the geocache you want and it points you directly to it.

What is the point of geocaching?

Well there isn't really a point. It is something fun to do in your freetime. They offer certain rewards for doing certain things. Once you find the cache you have to sign the logbook and put it back exaclty how you found it. Then you say on the app if you found it or DNF (did not find). Sometimes the hider will leave treasures in the cache. The rule with the treasures are if you take something, leave something of greater or equal value.

How did I get into geocaching?

The way I found out about geocaching was I was walking through the woods with one of my friends and we found a capsule hanging from a tree. I had seen a few YouTube videos about geocaching so I had a relative idea on what it was. We got it down and opened it up and found a logbook. We thought it was fun finding it and decided to get the app and find some more.
